Boy Keychain
First Norma draws the design she wants to create with glass. Next she traces this design onto the glass. Using a glass cutter she cuts out the design and then uses a tool to separate the piece from the larger piece of glass. With metal wiring, Norma outlines the glass pieces then soxers them together. Depending on what she is making, Norma may use other metal wires to create picture frames, boxes, and little figurines. Norma is also experimenting with making glass lamps, windows, and mosaic glass pictures.
Norma Diaz Vilchis lives in the town of Navidad, outside of Mexico City. Wanting to decorate her home, Norma decided to take classes in working with glass. After taking classes she turned part of her husband's workshop into a workshop and store of her own. For the last 5 years Norma has been working out of her workshop and store, often taking orders for events such as weddings, quinceneras (the Mexican tradition of celebrating the 15th birthday), graduations, first communions etc.
