This wooden cup is constructed using a single piece of walnut wood, collected from the forests of Arslanbob, Kyrgyzstan. Great for drinking port, brandy or other beverages with a smoky-woody flavor. This makes for a nice functional or decorative piece.
Handcrafted Walnut Cup
Qiyas collects a dead and down piece of walnut wood from the community forest preserve surrounding his village of Arslanbob in southern Kyrgyzstan. He then rough-cuts wood, and commits to shaping the piece with the use of a lathe and chisel -- shaping the outside of the form first, then moving on to the inside wall for a smooth, consistent wall and a finished shape that is almost clay-like.
