Maria Ciobanu, Moldovan artisans. Usually she work alone, or with her young students from Balti Craftsmen Club . Maria is a teacher of French in the Catranic village school .Daily she traveles 26 km from Catranic to Balti to learn children from Craftsmen Club to embroider and to crochet. Her hobby became a source of income. At the moment she actively participate in exhibitions and promote cultural values in the country and abroad.
Romanian peasant blouse, called "ie", is one representative piece of Romanian tradition. As in the past, some Romanian women are still making these blouses. The embroidery is made by hand and it takes 2-5 weeks to produce one blouse. Day by day, the number of women that are making the embroidered blouses is decreasing. Even that, the Romanian blouse is surviving and it woth its reputation. You can see artists wearing Romanian blouses in famous movies or, some designers are inspired by the Romanian blouse in their clothing collections. You can meet the Romanian blouse all over the world. We tried to show you some blouses, carefully hand embroidered according with ancient patterns. All these blouses are small pieces of art and contain a part of Romanian history in its embroidery.
